The Red City

Marrakech

The city, in a breath

Our home, and the Kingdom's stage.

Marrakech is where the Maison is based. It is the city we know best — street by street, riad by riad, maalem by maalem. Twelve years of relationships in the Medina; twenty years of relationships with the palace houses.

The city rewards slowness. Between the Medina, the Palmeraie, the Atlas foothills and the Agafay desert, Marrakech holds four entirely different worlds within an hour of each other.

Where to sleep

Six houses, one private rate.

Royal Mansour
Palace · Medina edge

Royal Mansour

Each suite is a three-storey riad with its own plunge pool and rooftop. The Kingdom's definitive palace house.

La Mamounia
Palace · Historic gardens

La Mamounia

Ten acres of eighteenth-century gardens within the walls of the Medina. A century of literary residents.

El Fenn
Riad · Entire-property

El Fenn

A collection of nine art-filled riads, full-property buyout for privacy. A Maison favourite for creative clients.

Mandarin Oriental
Palace · Palmeraie

Mandarin Oriental

A twenty-acre retreat in the Palmeraie, with private pool villas and the finest spa in the country.

Selman
Palace · Equestrian

Selman

A palace centred on the stables of Arabian horses. Discreet, outside the hustle.

A Medina riad, unnamed
Private · By invitation

A Medina riad, unnamed

A fourth-generation family palace opened to the Maison by invitation only. Available for entire-property stays.

01 · The Medina

After hours, the city opens.

The Medina at 21:00 is the Medina the public never sees. Souks lit and empty, ateliers kept open for you alone. Our guide is a maalem — a master — not a tour operator.

  • Souk after hours
  • Ateliers by introduction
  • Bab Agnaou
02 · The Palmeraie

Twenty thousand palm trees.

North of the city, the Palmeraie is where the palaces sit, the gardens open, and dinner is served under the sky. A horse at dawn, a long lunch in the shade, a private pool by afternoon.

03 · The Atlas

An hour away, a different country.

A 4×4 to Imlil, a Berber lunch, mint tea on a terrace at two thousand metres. For those who want altitude without the airport.

  • Imlil
  • Ourika
  • Toubkal view
04 · The Agafay

A stone desert, twenty minutes out.

Not quite the Sahara, but the light is there, the silence is there, and the stars are as close. A Maison bivouac, a Gnawa trio, a chef flown in.

Maison advice

When to come, and for how long.

A short brief from the Maison on the season and rhythm. Bespoke advice upon enquiry.

Mar — May
High season, perfect

Mild days, cool evenings, every garden in bloom. Residences fill six months out; enquire early.

Jun — Aug
Hot, quiet

38–42°C by day, 18–22°C at night. Book residences with serious pool and shade.

Sep — Nov
Maison's favourite

Clear light, empty Medina, warm stone. Agafay and Atlas at their best.

Dec — Feb
Crisp, snowed Atlas

Bright days, fires at night. The Atlas white against the red city.
